P. Diddy is a crappy-ass rapper

So I had an epiphany this weekend: P. Diddy (or Puff Daddy as I knew him back in the day) is a crappy-ass rapper. I was listening to a "classic" hip hop radio station and after a boss 50 Cent song, "Mo Money Mo Problems" came on.

Seriously both he and Mase sound like Shy Ronnie. WTF are they saying?

I love rap and hip hop from my high school years, which surprises me because my favoritest bands ever are Linkin' Park, U2 and Coldplay. I can listen to Biggie, Tupac, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop, the Fugees and of course Bone Thugs 'n' Harmony over and over again. And I know all the words to "Lody Dody." Really. Ask me to sing it I dare you.

So is it a simple case of nostalgia? Or the familiarity? Deep down I'm a wannabe thug? The older I get the more I realize that we are truly creatures of habit. Things that are familiar are good. Things that are unfamiliar, well, we just aren't sure about them. That being said, you know what sucks? Rae Sremmurd. They couldn't hold a candle to Tupac. Seriously.

Maybe I am just too old to understand this shit. That doesn't change the fact that it's shit. Sorry Srem, It's nothing personal, but I'll take vintage Puff Daddy over you any day.

P.S. Did I really use the word boss? I'm horrified, yet I've racked my brain and I can't think of a better word.

“The Greek word for "return" is nostos. Algos means "suffering." So nostalgia is the suffering caused by an unappeased yearning to return.”
